Mini Candied Apples

Ingredients:
Granny Smith Apples
Butterscotch chips
Shortening (optional)
Non-pareils or other decorations (nuts, toffee, colored sugar, etc.)

Tools:
Melon scoop
Toothpicks.
Wax Paper

Add about 2 tablespoons shortening per bag of butterscotch chips and melt in the microwave (about 1 min) stirring every 15-20 seconds. Do not overcook as it will be stiff and crumbly.

Using the melon scoop, core out ball-shaped apple pieces, leaving a small amount of green skin on the "top". Poke the middle of the skin with a toothpick, forming the stick handle.

Dip apples in the melted butterscotch and rotate to coat completely, leaving a little bit of the skin showing at the top.

While still soft, sprinkle or dip in non-pareils or other decorations. Set on wax paper to harden.
